I see, from the post below yesterday's, that I haven't put anything up since mid-December, back when blizzards were something I could dodge. That would be the longest hiatus this blog has seen. So thanks for that, Facebook.
So, PrettyGirl has another persistent ear infection, one that may or may not be finally getting under control. This will probably be an annual January-March ritual, until the inevitable introduction of ear tubes. Can't wait.
Her doctor thought that the first round of antibiotics had done the job, but prescribed another 10 days of it to "mop up." A week later, PG was fingering her ear and running around with a hair-trigger temper again, so it was back to the doctor's office to find that one ear was A-OK and the other ear was "A Mess." Lots of swelling and a possible ruptured eardrum. Yee-haw! So, more powerful antibiotics for PG (Augmentin, I believe) and an appointment with an Ear Nose and Throat specialist on March 11.
PG loved the first antibiotics, so getting her to take them was easy as pie (and, I suppose, tasty as pie too.) The new stuff got less favorable reviews. At first taste, PG announced that it was "icky," and we had to hold her head still and do an end run around her clenched jaw by putting the dropper in her cheek to get her to take 'em. Unlike the yummy meds, this stuff has to be given twice a day. So we had good times after breakfast and dinner this past weekend.
Then we sent PG off to daycare with her meds on Monday, so she could take them after breakfast. She came home that night perfectly content to drink down however much we wanted to give her after dinner. Now she makes sure to tell us beforehand that "They're not icky." I don't know what they said to her Monday morning, but it seems to have worked like a charm. I am, however, a little concerned she's also saying that her teacher is "the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life."
I joke, of course.

Up From The Ashes
As a fellow blogger recently noted, it has become pretty apparent that Facebook has taken the place of blogs for giving people updates on what's going on and what you're thinking (Twitter has done this too, albeit with a somewhat unreasonable restriction on elaboration.) I suppose this is to be expected. After all, this blog pretty much took the place of my rickhome.com website. That's not to say I was updating the site... at all, really... for a year or two before Blogger pulled me in, but at least I was thinking about updating my website, pre-blog.
So, I suppose I could give up the ghost, say a fond farewell to my loyal readers, assuming there are still any left, and direct all friends and family to my Facebook profile for updates.
I'm not gonna do that.
To get myself back into posting on this blog, I'm bringing back Post More Often Month (PoMoOftMo.) For the uninitiated, look no further than right here for an explanation of what PoMoOftMo is all about. Since I'd rather not wait until November, the traditional time for special blogging months, I've moved PoMoOftMo up to June. And July. And however long I can keep this up.
Here's the logo I made for the occasion...

So lots of PrettyGirl updates and other topics coming soon! For now, I will leave you all with this PG anecdote...
The other day M was changing PG's diaper and had taken off PG's panties. PG picked up the panties, held them to her ear like a cell phone, and said, "Hello, pan-ees? ...What? ...OK, bye!"

It's Alive! Alive!
After a month and a half of apathy, an affair with Facebook, a brief flirtation with WordPress, a bout of sickness for both me and my computer (only one of us had an actual virus, I think, and that one of us was not me,) and an overhaul of the design that started out major and ended up minor, I am finally ready to start posting here again.
Stay tuned!
(Title lyric: "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo. It's actually a clip from The Bride of Frankenstein, but it counts as a song lyric because it was in a song.)
