Not Walking Yet

A few PrettyGirl updates for those of you who are interested in such things...

* Right now, my baby girl is sick as a dawg. Luckily, it's just a garden-variety head cold, with no apparent signs of impending ear infection or pink eye. We were pretty sure there was some pink eye going on, what with the almost constant wetness of her eyes, but the doctor saw nothing. But, since we were already putting antibiotic goop (left over from her previous foray into conjunctivitisville last September - the stuff doesn't expire until July) in her eyes, the doc recommended that we keep that up for a few more days, just in case.

So, while she doesn't have anything too bad going on with her, she's still sad and cranky. We were lucky enough to have the cold and its attendant crankiness kick in while we were on our way back from a trip to DC on Sunday. She started yelling on the Metrorail and hasn't given us much peace since.

* As I mentioned up there in the title, there's no walking going on. No solo walking, anyway. She's dabbled in pushing things around while upright (including the front of her stroller while we were in the National Aquarium in DC - it took a lot of diligence on our part to make sure she didn't hit anybody.) It's just a matter of time, now.

She is, however, getting really, really good at pulling herself up on things.

* PG looooooooooves her Winnie The Pooh. He's big and fuzzy, and she buries her face in him all the time. He's one of the very few things in this world that makes her laugh out loud. If she's in a bad mood on the changing table or in her crib, we need only produce the Pooh and sing the song, and she forgets her problems. Pooh = baby crack.

She has similar, if less passionate, feelings towards 'Bita the kitty and a standard issue teddy bear. We try to keep Pooh, 'Bita and Teddy on separate floors in the house so she has a friend nearby wherever she may be.

* Oh, and the talking. No English yet, unless you count "Mama" and "Dada," neither of which are, as far as we can tell, being used in the proper context. What we do have is a tossed salad of pretty much every vowel and consonant. She even throws in a "th" every so often, as in "baaaaaa-thwa!"

Why did I ever outgrow WTP?

She'll be walking and talking in no time!

Start singing John Lee Hooker songs to her . . . Jackie started off her morning yesterday by calling the bear we keep on the changing table (quite clearly), "Boom Boom Boom Bear!"

Hope PG's on the mend soon so she can properly enjoy her first birthday. Cheers! Kelly
